Notting Hill Carnival 2024

Since 1966, the Notting Hill carnival has been an annual event in London. It is a Caribbean festival, meaning that it comes with rhythms and the atmosphere known from such countries.

The Notting Hill Carnival is a festival for locals, tourists, and everyone. There are lots of marching bands taking part, dancers, artists, and locals who want to have a good time. Besides music, dancing, and marching, the event is packed with stalls and bars. As a result, you can both eat and drink to enjoy the program even more.

The event normally attracts approximately 2,5 million people, making sure that you do not feel lonely or alone if you decide to be a part of the carnival. The number of participants makes it one of the largest street festivals in the world.

The event takes place over two days. It starts on a Sunday and ends on Monday. There is one Monday in the United Kingdom each year that is a bank holiday, and the event always starts on the Sunday preceding the Bank Holiday.

Like many other events, the Notting Hill carnival was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. It returned in 2022.

There have been a few unfortunate events during the carnival throughout the years. In 2018, they introduced metal detectors to hinder people from bringing weapons into the area. Since its inception, six people have been killed during the carnival, the latest during the event in 2022. The police is always present in great numbers during the event, meaning that public safety is a very high priority.
